UK Tetrathlon Participants

Some of our pupils have represented Northern Ireland in the recent UK Tetrathlon Championship event held in Bishop Burton College, Beverley, England. Year 11 student Johnny Erskine and his sister and Year 13 student, Ellen Erskine, displayed their skills in the four phase event;

  • running
  • swimming
  • shooting
  • cross-country riding.

Johnny represented the Junior Boys team and Ellen was on the Intermediate Girls team. However it was a real family affair as they were joined by their older brother and former Down High student, Paddy Erskine as well as Ewan Findlay, a cousin, who left Down High school last year - both of whom represented the Open Boys team.

It was a significant achievement for them all as they had to progress through a gruelling selection at local Pony Club Branch Level (East Down Pony Club) and qualify at a regional event before being invited to compete at International level in the UK National Championships. The event at Bishop Burten College showcased the talents of the best athletes from Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland and the school is very proud that some of our current and past students were represented in this prestigious event.
