Christopher Scurfield

16th Dec 2022

It was with immense shock and sadness that the school community learned of the passing of former pupil Christopher Scurfield, who left Down High in 2018 after completing 7 years of study. Christopher was fully immersed in the life of the school and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Throughout Christopher’s time at school, he played a very active role in its extra-curricular life, including involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and the rugby programme, in which Christopher proudly played, right up to 1st XV level. Christopher was also a member of the senior rugby tour to the USA in the summer of 2017. Staff who worked with Christopher in all these activities recall his engaging and good-humoured personality with great fondness. Christopher was a very popular member of his year group and built many strong friendships which continued beyond his time at school.

On leaving Down High, Christopher pursued his very keen interest in Agriculture at Harper Adams University where he recently graduated with a degree in Agricultural and Farm Business Management. Latterly he was working in New Zealand. At this difficult time, the thoughts and prayers of the whole school community are with his parents, his sister Erin, also a past pupil, and his close friends.
