Year 13 and Year 14 Geography and Tourism Trip to the Netherlands
6th Oct 2018
A sunny weekend in The Netherlands was enjoyed by Geography and Tourism pupils. We visited the Rijksmuseum and later, central Amsterdam as we sailed around the canal system on a warm Saturday afternoon. The worst natural disaster in Dutch history was the focus of Sunday when we visited the storm surge barrier and park in Zeeland. The storm surge of 1953 lead to the construction of the storm surge barrier which was, at one time, one of the seven engineering wonders of the world and has prevented the coast from devastating flooding. The windmill heritage village of Zaanse Schans was extremely picturesque while our walking tour of the Water Quarter and floating apartments rounded off the trip on a high note.
