Support Cathal for Climate Change Camps

26th Sep 2021

Cathal Quinn, a  Year11 pupil at Down High School,  is a youth leader with Lecale Conservation Association, a voluntary community group dedicated to safeguarding the natural and built heritage of South Down. They restore local beach sand dune systems, turn wasteland into mini forests or community gardens and campaign for environmental causes. (Please see the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Lecale-Conservation-Association-2254571494792267/ for more information.)

During the summer months this year, Cathal was involved in various projects with the group, one of which was a plan to create a series of Climate Change Camps for young adults to identify and influence the decision makers in their own local government, planning departments and education system.

Cathal and his friends in the group (from a mix of local high schools) entered their project into a competition for funding for such initiatives run by Coca-Cola across the island of Ireland. They successfully passed the preliminary stages of the competition and are now shortlisted to win a prize of 5000 euro which would enable them to run the Climate Change Camps.

DHS is asking for your support to help Cathal and his project win the top prize, so that they can put their Climate Change Ideas into action.

This is a really great achievement to have reached this stage of the competition.

We wish them success.
