Making a Difference in Costa Rica

24th Sep 2024

Andrew Dickson in Year 14 had a busy summer as he headed off the Costa Rica with the Raleigh International Expedition. The organisation aims to create young leaders by providing life-enhancing journeys and transformational international experiences.

Andrew spent four weeks travelling around Costa Rica. His first week was spent training and preparing for the challenges he would face. He then spent 1 week helping an indigenous community by building a farming facility, shelter, planting fruit tress and building a sustainable crop area. Next, he had a week helping to conserve the turtle population from poaching and learning about environmental protection and finally he trekked through the mountains of Costa Rica for his final week.

Andrew explained that the expedition was ‘a rewarding challenge that forced him to reflect on the luxuries of home and a great experience to meet new people and create amazing memories he will have for life’.
