Irish Schools Athletics Championships
Down High had seven athletes travel to Tullamore, Co. Offaly to represent the school at the Irish Schools Athletics Championship. The highlight of the day was Year 10 student, Catherine Martin picking up a silver medal in the Junior girls' 1500m with a personal best time of 4.49. Other personal bests were achieved by Kirsti Foster who ran 2.22 to finish fourth in the Junior girls' 800m, James Gilliland who ran 2.06 to finish fourth in the Junior boys' 800m and Cameron McCaughey who ran the 800m with an impressive time of 1.59, he also finished fourth in the Intermediate boys' competition. In other events, Hannah Gilliland, ran a great race in the Senior girls' 1500m in a time of 4.53 finishing 6th, while Sara Kelly finished 9th in the Senior girls' high jump with a season’s best jump of 1.45m. Finally, Year 14 student, Rachel Maguire, represented the school for the last time and finished 8th in the Senior girls' long jump and 8th in the Senior girls' 200m.
