FairActive Award
Down High School has been involved with the Fairtrade Foundation for several years offering pupils an opportunity to learn about this worldwide movement, where our food comes from and how we are connected to people around the world.
However, year 10 pupils set their sights further afield last term and worked hard develop their understanding of this important organisation and take a more active role promoting this organisation. Geography and Home Economics worked collaboratively with the pupils to create lessons that enabled the pupils and school to be awarded this accolade. To accomplish this the pupils had to engage in Fairtrade discussions with the Eco-Committee, create an online Fairtrade action plan, petition their local politician on current Fairtrade initiatives and deliver a Fairtrade assembly. An excellent achievement for all involved.
