Down High siblings enjoy excellent Swimming Camp in London
Down High pupils Harry and Alice Cross recently enjoyed a chance to train at the world class London Aquatics Centre. The brother and sister from Downpatrick were selected by Ulster Schools Swimming to participate in the training camp, based on their impressive performances at last year’s Schools’ Swimming Galas.
Representing Down High, the exciting weekend took them to the London 2012 Olympic Village in the east of the city, where they stayed for two nights.
The siblings were delighted with the chance to get to work in a 50 metre, Olympic-sized pool, having only trained in 25m sized facilities previously. Alice enthused about “the opportunity to get taught by different coaches at an historic location, as well as getting to know other swimmers”. Harry felt that this exposure to top-level athletes “could only be of benefit to us”, before adding that, “it was nice to do a bit of sightseeing on our last day too!”
