Down High Equestrian Team Compete at Balmoral Show
The Down High Equestrian team had another successful outing on Saturday as they took to the arena at the Balmoral Show. The team’s qualification for the competition reflected the consistently high standard achieved by each rider throughout the season. The competition held even more significance because it was the final time a number of the senior pupils would compete on behalf of DHS as they leave for University next year. Annie Gibson entered the arena first and jumped two fabulous rounds, only knocking one unfortunate pole towards the end. Next up, was Ben Cousins, who is no stranger to prestigious events and he jumped the course like a pro. Regrettably, the double combination proved challenging. The third member of the team was James Murphy and he completed two clear rounds in magnificent style to a rapturous applause from the grandstand. The final team rider, the captain, Zara Sharvin completed two incredible clear rounds while the team held their breath in the collecting arena. As the competition came to a close the DHS team felt incredibly proud of their achievements, and were thrilled to place 3rd against the top teams throughout Ireland. It was a momentous occasion as the riders collected their prizes and galloped around the arena for their victorious lap of honour.
