Mrs Wilson Wins Post - Primary Eco- Teacher of the Year

8th Apr 2019

Throughout her career Mrs Wilson has worked tirelessly to create an eco-friendly ethos in Down High School. She has now been rewarded for her efforts by being named the post-primary Eco-Teacher of the Year. She had been nominated for the award by Year 14 pupil, Jack Campbell who has been heavily involved with eco-school initiatives.
The event took place in W5, Belfast and the theme for the event was how society can tackle the scourge of plastic that is seriously affecting our environment. Guests were inspired to take action on this topic through speeches from Lizzie Daly, wildlife biologist and presenter Geoff Brighty, from Plastic Oceans UK.
Mrs Wilson should be commended for her efforts in DHS to promote key eco issues. In recent years she and the eco-committee have played a key role in the school successfully being awarded three Green Flags: the world’s largest Environmental Education programme which aims to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of a school. She has also worked to promote a range of other issues including: tree planting, an e-petition to parliament on bee protection, toilet twinning fundraising to offer aid to deprived countries, power down days, sustainability initiatives and the safeguarding habitats for pollination scheme.
Well done Mrs Wilson. You have truly helped to make Down High green!
