More Great Cricket Success as 1st XI win the Schools' Plate

27th Jun 2019

What a season it's been for Down High cricket! Hot on the heels of the Year 8 and Under-13 successes, the First XI today won the Ulster Schools' Plate, defeating Bangor Grammar School in glorious sunshine at Uprichard Park. Bowling first, Down High made some early breakthroughs, with Stuart Campbell taking four wickets in a blistering spell. Set a challenging target of 139, Down High batted bravely and, just as the run chase was looking impossible, Charlie Hutton hit two sixes and a four to turn the tide. In a nail-biting finish, Rhodri Phillips and Tom Crudgington saw DHS home, with Tom hitting the winning run off the last ball in the match. Cue celebrations. Well done to all the boys and to Mr Irvine for coaching the team and masterminding this great achievement. Congratulations to both teams for producing such an enthralling game of cricket.
