Equestrian Team Continue Strong Season

31st Mar 2017

For many pupils in Down High St Patrick’s Day meant a leisurely break from classroom lessons. But for members of the equestrian team it meant an early start to their preparations for the inter-school show jumping event at The Meadows in Lurgan.

Five teams from Down High travelled to compete in a challenging contest which saw school teams from the north and the south of Ireland. As usual the standard of the competition was extremely high and two teams from Down High were delighted to run double clear rounds and progress to the final ‘jump off’. After some very fast times against the clock, the Intermediate team consisting of Lara Kelly, Zara Sharvin, Abby Brown and Alex Ogle secured 2nd place. Then the seniors entered the arena to battle it out for a place in the Open competition. They all jumped clear and the team consisting of Alex Cleland, Jessica Nelson, Charlotte Leslie and Charis Vinaccia gained a coveted 2nd place. Having also won the Inter-school Show Jumping  League at the Meadows, this team will be travelling to Mullingar on 8th April to compete in an All-Ireland final.
